Michael Deans brings nearly 35 years of experience from Lloyd Wise and its predecessors, including 25 as a partner, before founding his own firm in 1999. He has worked extensively before the UK and European Patent and Trademark Offices, and held key roles in Asia, including Hong Kong, Singapore, and Beijing.
A Cambridge University graduate in Natural Sciences (Physics), he qualified as a Patent Agent in 1969 and became a partner at Tregear, Thiemann & Bleach in 1974, helping shape its merger into Lloyd Wise. A European Patent Attorney since 1979, Michael handles a broad range of IP matters—from biotech to IT—and has represented clients in multiple legal forums.
Based in Farnham, with a second office at his home, Michael is easily reachable by phone or e-mail during and beyond regular working hours, offering clients deep experience with a personal, responsive touch.
Laura Gardner

Laura joined our firm in June 2014 and is now fully qualified as a British and European Trademark Attorney, having completed her professional training with commendation at the Nottingham Law School, Nottingham Trent University in 2018.
Laura's early career was in arts administration, predominantly at the BBC and the Royal Academy of Arts. Having experienced some exposure to the intellectual property issues within these institutions, she grasped the opportunity presented by M.J.P. Deans to forge a new career in intellectual property and has never looked back.
She has a passion for delivering sound advice on trademark portfolio management, always maintaining a personal and client-focused approach. As Secretary of ECTA’s AI and Data Committee, she stays at the forefront of emerging technologies and legal developments, bringing valuable insights to her practice. Committed to ongoing professional growth, she looks forward to continually expanding her knowledge and experience in the dynamic field of intellectual property.
Ricky Bhagat

Ricky joined our firm in 2022, having obtained his BSc in Neuroscience from the University of Nottingham with first class honours.
Ricky is a dedicated patent attorney with a genuine passion for innovation and the wide range of scientific technologies that fuel it. With a strong background in both science and intellectual property law, he thrives on helping clients—from ambitious startups to established companies—navigate the patent process with confidence, offering clear, strategic advice tailored to each invention, always to efficiently secure the strongest possible protection.
An ambitious learner, he aspires to qualify as a European Patent Attorney and a Trademark Attorney in addition.
Dr. Stephan Kratz
European Patent Attorney, German Patent Attorney, European Trademark Attorney.
Stephan joined our firm in November 2019 and is qualified as a German Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and European Trademark Attorney. He studied physics and received his doctorate from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn, Germany.
In particular, he supports the Munich office.

Natalie joined us in 2018. New to intellectual property, she has quickly established herself as an invaluable member of our firm, and has since successfully qualified as a CITMA Trademark Paralegal.
Natalie provides the paralegal and administration support we need to ensure that the firm runs smoothly. She is in charge of our records and diary systems and co ordinates our accounts.
Frankly, we wonder how we managed before she joined us.
